Carboxymethyl Guar Gum
CAS No. 68130-15-4

Carboxymethyl guar gum (CMGG) is derivatised from guar gum (GG) to improve its properties & overcome its imitations in respect of incomplete hydration, poor solution clarity.

CMGG is synthesized by reacting GG with sodium monochloroacetate (SMCA) or monochloroacetic acid (MCA) in alkaline conditions.

The two step reactions are as follows :

GG–OH + NaOH → GG–ONa + H2O
GG–ONa + ClCH2COONa → GG–OCH2COONa + NaCl

CMGG has improved aqueous solubility & stability and thus used for blending, crosslinking, grafting, or co-polymerizing with other molecules or polymers.

This wide spectrum of manipulation makes it a functional material & allows its use in diverse fields like health, environment, agriculture, energy, tissue 3D printing, wastewater treatment, soil remediation, textile printing, petroleum, oil & lubricant industries, cosmetics etc.

Property of GMGG Use
Binding agent Cohesion of different cosmetic ingredients
Emulsion Stabilizing Stabilize food, pharma & cosmetic emulsions
Gel forming Contributes to stable gel formation
Viscosity control Allows viscosity control of cosmetics

Use of CMGG in reactive printing affords print of successive printing pattern & good fabric handle. The CMGG paste was a suitable alternative of SA in reactive dye printing. CMGG is convenient, low cost and eco-friendly.
