Calcium alginate - CALGYSO

Calcium alginate, CALGYSO, is a white to yellow powder, almost odorless & tasteless. It is insoluble in water & ether, slightly soluble in ethanol & slowly soluble in sodium carbonate.

Applications

1. In foods as binder, thickener, water-retention agent. In presence of sodium ions of foods, it exchanges the calcium ions leading to increased thickening
2. As stabilizer, thickener, emulsifier, plasticizer
3. For making wet adhesive for skin electrodes & as haemostatic agent
